Make: BOMs, work orders, MRP and quality on one floor.

Bills of materials with several levels, production work orders that cost the actual material and labour into finished goods, material planning that recommends what to make or buy, job-work, and built-in quality checks with non-conformance reports and supplier scorecards.

Short answer

What does Kinnow Make do? It runs a factory floor from recipe to finished lot. Bills of materials, work orders, a shop-floor screen where operators start and finish each step, a capacity board that shows when you have promised more than the plant can do, job work, and quality checks on incoming and outgoing goods. Completing a work order creates the finished stock and posts the cost to the books in the same step.

Your Monday morning, before and after

A typical owner-run plant of 30 to 150 people, with a production manager, a stores in-charge and a purchase executive.

TodayOn Kinnow Make
The bill of materials lives in an Excel sheet. Three versions are floating around and the shop floor uses the oldest one.One bill of materials per product, with versions. Only an active bill can be used on a work order, and a recipe that loops back on itself is refused when you save it.
You promise a delivery date from memory, then find out on Thursday that the welding bay is booked for two weeks. The capacity board shows, for each work centre, minutes planned against minutes available for the coming week. It does not stop at 100 per cent, so an overloaded bay reads 130 per cent, not "full".
Operators write start and stop times on a job card. A clerk types them in on Saturday. The operator presses Start and Complete on the shop-floor screen. The clock records the time, and the screen asks who is at the machine.
Material goes out to a job worker on a challan. Nobody can say what is still lying there or for how long, until the ITC-04 deadline.Every job-work order shows sent, returned, scrapped and still-out quantities, with ageing. The material stays on your stock, not as a sale.
A bad lot is found after dispatch. The supplier gets a phone call and no record.Incoming goods are inspected when the receipt is accepted. A failure becomes a non-conformance report with a decision on what to do, and the supplier's score changes.
Month-end cost of production is a guess, adjusted by the accountant.Finished-goods cost is the material actually issued plus the labour cost entered at completion, posted to the ledger when the work order completes.

#WhoWhat happensWhere someone decides
1Production plannerEnters the demand and what is on hand. Kinnow works out the shortfall and recommends, item by item, whether to make it (a bill of materials exists) or buy it (none does). The planner approves the plan. Nothing is raised on its own.
2Production plannerTurns the make recommendations into draft work orders, each for an active bill of materials and a quantity. The components to issue are listed from the bill.A work order above the limit you set is held in "pending approval" until the named approver releases it.
3SupervisorReleases the work order to the floor. The capacity board now counts its routed minutes against each work centre.Only a supervisor can release it.
4Stores in-chargeIssues components against the work order. Stock comes out of inventory as each issue is recorded.None. Each issue is recorded against the person who made it.
5OperatorStarts each step on the shop-floor screen, naming who is at the machine, and completes it. Steps run in order; the screen names the step that is holding you up.None. The clock is the record.
6Operator, storesRecords a stoppage with a start and an end, and picks a reason from your own list. The duration is measured, never typed.None.
7Quality inspectorRecords a pass, fail or conditional result. A failure raises a non-conformance report with severity and a disposition: rework, scrap, use as is, or return to supplier.Someone with quality sign-off decides and approves what happens to the stock.
8Production managerCompletes the work order with good, rejected and scrap quantities and the labour cost. Completed plus rejected plus scrap cannot exceed the planned quantity. A run that ends short is short-closed.You can set a rule that holds completion until someone approves.
9Kinnow, then the accountantCreates the finished-goods lot and, in Account, debits finished goods and credits work in progress and labour applied. It alerts the manager if actual cost is 10 per cent or more away from the plan. The accountant reviews the journal as with any other entry.

What the capacity board tells you, and what it does not

For each work centre you set the available minutes per day: 480 for one eight-hour shift, 960 for two. The board adds up the routed minutes of every open work order against that figure for the next seven days, and it shows the number even when it passes 100 per cent. Orders that have no routing are named beneath the board, because they will use the same machines and are the orders most likely to run late.

The board works with the capacity you actually have: it tells you plainly when you have promised more than the shop can do. It does not schedule for you. Kinnow does not move work orders around or fix start dates automatically. A separate agent proposes an order to run released work orders in, shortest job first, and a planner decides whether to use it.

Agents that work here

Other agents here: a production planner that turns make recommendations into draft work orders, a material-shortage check before release, a costing-variance alert, a job-work reconciliation, a capacity watch, a reject-rate watch and a tool-service watch. The last two run each morning and put what they find in your agent inbox. We check each agent with you before it works on your books, and everything it produces waits for your team. Nothing is raised, posted or revalued on its own.

Ask Kinnow about your plant

Ask in plain English. Before it answers, Kinnow shows the records it will read and what that will cost. Where records are missing, it says so instead of guessing.

Which work centres are over 100 per cent next week?

Planned and available minutes per centre, and the count of unrouted orders.

Which work orders are overdue?

Order, item, due date and status.

How much material is lying with job workers, and for how long?

Open job-work orders, oldest first, with quantities still out.

What is our biggest reject cause this quarter?

Your own reasons, ranked, over the window you name.

Which suppliers have the weakest incoming quality?

Pass and reject rate per supplier, from completed inspections.

Which dies are due for service?

Tools due, due soon, and those with no service interval set.

The controls an owner cares about

  • Viewing Make is a separate permission from changing it. Releasing a work order, closing a run, activating a bill, sending material to a job worker, reconciling job work and approving a plan each need their own permission, set person by person in Admin.
  • The person who raises a quality finding is not necessarily the one who decides to ship the stock anyway.
  • A work order above your approval limit is held, with the approver's role named, and moves on only once every required approval is given.
  • No one can type in a tool's usage or a stoppage's duration. The count rises from recorded production, and recording a service is a different permission from mounting the tool.
  • Cost fields on a work order are hidden from users without the cost permission.
  • Veil, our privacy layer, holds back bank, tax and ID numbers and swaps names for placeholders before an AI call. It covers Ask Kinnow and most agents today; the rest are being added.

Connects to

  • Buy: when a goods receipt is accepted, an inbound inspection is raised for each accepted line. Supplier quality feeds back into purchasing.
  • Stock and ship: component issues take stock out, finished lots come in, and material sent to a job worker moves to a separate stock line that stays yours and keeps its value.
  • Account: the entry that moves work in progress to finished goods when a work order completes.
  • Comply: the job-work e-Way bill record and the ITC-04 draft.
  • Admin: permissions, and who signs off in order.
See a work order complete into your ledger. Material, labour, finished lot and journal, in one sitting.

Questions

Does MRP create purchase orders automatically?

No. The planning run recommends what to make and what to buy. A planner approves the plan, a planner or supervisor releases any work order, and purchasing raises its own orders. Nothing is created without a person.

Does it schedule the plant for me?

No. The capacity board shows minutes planned against minutes available per work centre, including when you are past 100 per cent. A sequencing agent can suggest a running order, shortest job first, for a planner to use. Kinnow does not fix dates or move orders on its own.

Is job work supported?

Yes. Dispatch to and receipt from job workers is recorded, the material stays on your books while it is out, and Comply prepares a job-work e-Way bill record when the value crosses the limit and an ITC-04 draft from your recorded movements. An agent watches material outstanding by age. Your CA still reviews the return before it is filed.

Can we bring our existing bills of materials and reject codes?

Work orders and inspections can be imported, and a reject or stoppage reason list can be uploaded from the sheet you already use. The upload reports what was added, updated, left unchanged and what it could not read. Most clients see first results in about two weeks.

Can it connect to machines?

Not in this release. The shop-floor screen records the start and completion of each step. Readings from the machines stay with your equipment partners.

What happens when an agent is wrong?

It cannot act on its own. Every suggestion is shown with its reasons and waits for your team, and we check each agent with you before it works on your records.
