What does Kinnow Comply do? GST returns built from your own books, GSTR-2B reconciliation, e-invoicing, e-Way bills and a deadline calendar. CA practices get one list of clients and can open each client's books. Kinnow prepares the return; a person always does the filing.
Your tax desk in a filing week, before and after
Most owners leave GST to an outside CA and a junior who re-keys invoices into a portal. The month still ends in the same scramble.
| Job | Today, in a typical Indian SME | On Kinnow |
|---|---|---|
| Building GSTR-1 | The CA's office asks for the sales register by the 5th and finds invoices missing on the 10th. | GSTR-1 is built from approved invoices. Every document left out is named, so a short return cannot go unnoticed. |
| Claiming input credit | Purchase bills are ticked against GSTR-2B in Excel. Gaps are found at year-end. | Every bill is matched to the supplier's 2B line and given a status. The credit at risk is listed largest first, and a chase is drafted for each supplier. |
| E-invoice and e-Way bill | Dispatch waits while someone types the invoice into a portal. | The invoice is queued for its IRN in the background and the e-Way bill is generated from the invoice. |
| Who files | The person who prepared the return also files it. | A second person has to file. The first cannot. |
| Deadlines | A CA's calendar and a WhatsApp reminder. | A calendar with alerts at 15, 7 and 1 day, and a return prepared 7 days before each deadline. |
| Notices | A notice arrives by post and sits on a desk. | It is logged with the reply date printed on it, and shown as due soon or overdue. |

Walk through one GST month
Take a company with an accounts executive who prepares, a finance head who files and an outside CA who reviews.
- Through the month. Each approved sales invoice from Sell goes to the e-invoice queue where it applies. Dispatch triggers the e-Way bill. Purchase bills from Buy arrive for matching. The tax engine applies date-versioned GST rates, so a rate change does not need an upgrade.
- Check the party. GSTINs are checked for format when entered. Where a GST data provider is connected, a supplier whose GSTIN is suspended or cancelled is flagged before a bill or invoice goes out.
- Bring in GSTR-2B. The period's 2B comes in through an authorised GST service provider (GSP), which is in pilot, and the accounts executive records the IMS decisions: accept, reject or hold.
- Reconcile. Kinnow matches every purchase bill to its 2B line and shows the input credit that is safe to claim and the credit at risk. The ITC chaser drafts follow-ups to suppliers. The reconciliation is saved for the period.
- Reverse charge. The accounts executive reviews bills flagged as possible reverse-charge purchases. The flag looks at the supplier name only, so read it as a prompt to look at this bill. Any accrual is a suggestion for your team to post.
- GSTR-1. Built from the books. The list of documents left out is shown first. A GSTR-1A is built if amendments are needed before GSTR-3B.
- GSTR-3B. Built with a tying check that compares its tax with GSTR-1, GSTR-1A and the matched credit, so a difference shows before filing.
- Review and file. The CA reviews. The finance head, who did not prepare the return, downloads the file, uploads it on the GST portal and records the acknowledgement number in Kinnow. The return then shows as filed.
- TDS and the rest. Monthly TDS deposit challans and quarterly return drafts are prepared from the deduction rows you supply, such as the TDS list in Account. Any row missing a PAN or a challan reference is listed. TCS credits are compared with Form 26AS.
- Close. Account's month-end close asks whether GSTR-1 is prepared, GSTR-3B is self-assessed and the 26Q matches. In India, the first two must pass before the close can go through.
Ask us to take one of your closed months and rebuild its GSTR-1 and 2B match.
Returns, lists and documents
| Output | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| GSTR-1 | From approved invoices, with every excluded document named. |
| GSTR-1A and GSTR-3B | Amendment return and the summary return, with a tying check between them and the matched credit. |
| GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C | Annual return and reconciliation statement as working drafts, built when turnover makes them applicable. Check them against the portal format before filing. |
| GSTR-2B reconciliation | Seven possible statuses per bill, input credit claimable and at risk, saved for each period and GSTIN. |
| E-invoice and e-Way bill list | IRN or e-Way number, status, failures with reasons, and bills about to expire. |
| HSN summary | For the return and for printing. |
| ITC-04 | Job-work data ready for the return, with missing job-worker GSTINs and challan numbers listed. |
| TDS challan and return drafts | By month and section. A row without PAN or challan reference is listed, never defaulted. |
| TCS against Form 26AS | Matched, short, excess, or missing, per collector. |
| Compliance calendar | GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, TDS deposit, quarterly TDS return and ITC-04, with alerts at 15, 7 and 1 day. |
| Notice list | Each notice with the printed reply date and its clock. |
| Print formats | Invoice, quotation, proforma, purchase order, sales order, delivery challan, credit and debit notes, receipt, payment voucher, payslip, freight bill, packing slip, reverse-charge invoice, and HR letters, in your branding with a UPI QR on invoices. |
Documents go by email or WhatsApp and can be signed with Kinnow Sign. A document is retained as the law requires.
For a CA practice
Comply is also the practice's own job desk. You can only read a client's books unless preparer mode is switched on.
- Client list. Every client company that has given you access, opened one at a time for reading only, or in preparer mode where the client has allowed it.
- Job list. One row for each obligation, client and period, with a preparation date and a filing date, and a status that runs from not started, through awaiting client, in preparation and awaiting review, to filed.
- Document chaser and deadline load. Reminders drafted for clients whose records have not arrived, and the partner's workload week by week. Neither sends anything by itself.
- UDIN, fees and write-downs. The UDIN is checked for shape and recorded on the job. Fees, write-down requests and their decisions are recorded, and an invoice is raised from the job.
- Recurring jobs. Schedules create each month's or quarter's jobs on their own.
Agents that work in Comply
Each agent prepares a piece of the tax desk's work and hands it back to you. We check each one with you before it works on your books, and nothing is filed without a person.
Filing Prep
Builds the GSTR-1 file from your books and lists every document it left out, with the reason, for a person to clear before filing.
ComplyMismatch Detector
Finds mismatches between your returns and your ledger, and in GSTR-2B, and flags them for a person before a return is filed.
Comply + MaintainStatutory NOC
Lists NOCs (no-objection certificates) and inspections that are pending, scheduled or expired, with the days left to each due date. A negative figure means overdue.
MastersData-quality
Counts the gaps in your customer, supplier and item records, such as missing tax IDs, mobile numbers and HSN codes, and proposes changes for a person to accept.
Also here: ITC mismatch chaser, HSN classifier, e-invoice rejection handler, e-Way extension watcher, ITC-04 preparer, TDS challan preparer, TCS and 26AS matcher, reverse-charge detector and notice clock.
Ask Kinnow about your tax desk
Ask in plain English. Before it answers, Kinnow shows where the answer will come from and what it will cost, and it uses only what the person asking may see.

The controls an owner cares about
- A second person files. Whoever prepared a return cannot mark it filed.
- The order of work is fixed. GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B wait for the period's GSTR-2B reconciliation.
- Large payable, extra sign-off. In India, a return with more than ₹10,00,000 payable also goes to a named person for sign-off.
- An e-invoice is never edited. Once registered, it can only be cancelled within the portal's time window and reissued, or corrected with a credit note.
- CA access. Read-only unless you switch it on. Preparer mode is set client by client, and switching it on or off is recorded.
- Veil. Tax and bank numbers are held back, and names are swapped for placeholders, before anything goes to an AI. This covers Ask Kinnow and most agents today.
Connects to
- Sell: approved invoices feed GSTR-1, the IRN and the e-Way bill.
- Buy: purchase bills feed the 2B match and input credit by head.
- Account: the ledger the returns are checked against; TDS deductions; the close asks whether returns are done.
- People: salary TDS and statutory payments.
- Make: job-work dispatches feed the ITC-04 data pack.
- The GSP for 2B and the government portals for IRN and e-Way are switched on client by client at set-up.
Questions
Does Kinnow file GST returns for us?
No. Kinnow builds the return from your books, lists every document it left out, and produces the file for you to upload on the GST portal. You then record the acknowledgement number in Kinnow, and the return shows as filed. A direct filing connection to the government is not part of this release.
Who is allowed to file?
Not the person who prepared the return. Kinnow refuses to mark a return filed if the preparer is also the filer, and asks for a second person, typically the partner or finance head who holds the filing-approval role. In India, a return with more than ₹10,00,000 payable also goes to a named person for sign-off.
Can a return be filed before we have reconciled GSTR-2B?
No. GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B cannot be marked filed until the period's GSTR-2B reconciliation has been run and saved. The order of work is reconcile, GSTR-1, pay, GSTR-3B.
What does the supplier-mismatch work actually do?
Each purchase bill is matched to the supplier's line in GSTR-2B and given a status, such as matched, within tolerance, missing in 2B, missing in books, rejected in IMS, pending in IMS, or denied because the supplier uploaded late. The ITC chaser drafts one follow-up per supplier and never two for the same gap. You approve each one before it goes.
What happens when an e-invoice is rejected?
The invoice is marked failed with the reason stored. An agent reads the reason, says whether sending it again can work and what to correct, and you press retry. A GSTIN that the status check shows as suspended or cancelled is flagged before the invoice goes out.
Can a CA firm run many clients here?
Yes. Each client company gives the CA access, which is read-only unless the client allows more. Preparer mode is switched on client by client and recorded. The practice keeps a job register with one row per client, obligation and period, and each job has its own preparation date and filing date, so late preparation and late filing are not mixed up.
How long does set-up take, and what do we bring?
About two weeks to first results. You bring your GSTINs, last period's returns and a list of suppliers. Reading from your current accounting software alongside Kinnow is not part of this release, so plan the move at a month-end.
