Veil (AI privacy layer)

Short answer

What is Veil? Kinnow's privacy layer for AI. Before any AI model sees your data, Veil, our privacy layer sorts every field by how sensitive it is, removes identifiers and swaps names for placeholder codes, then records what was sent and what was held back. It covers Ask Kinnow and most agents today; the rest are being added.

In plain words

Veil sits between your business data and any AI service. Before a question or draft leaves Kinnow, Veil holds back the numbers that identify someone, replaces names with codes, and records what was sent and what was kept back. When the answer returns, the real names are put back inside Kinnow.

Example

You ask Kinnow to draft a reminder for an overdue invoice. The record has the customer's name, GSTIN, a phone number, a negotiated early-payment discount and the amount. What leaves Kinnow reads: "Follow up with PARTY_01 on ₹4,82,350, 47 days overdue." The GSTIN, phone number and discount stay behind. The draft comes back as "Dear Meher Agro, a reminder that ₹4,82,350 is now 47 days overdue", with the name restored. The names and numbers are made up.

Why it matters

  • Risk. Bank, tax and ID numbers are not handed to an outside AI provider.
  • Use. You can use AI on payroll, contracts and customer records without that worry.
  • Proof. A record shows what was sent and what was withheld for each call.

How Kinnow handles it

Every stored field in the main applications is labelled by sensitivity: identifier, name, commercial terms, plain description, quantity, free text. Identifiers are dropped. Names become codes such as PARTY_01, the same within one request and different in the next. Negotiated terms are dropped by default. Free text is withheld if it looks like it holds an identifier or a name that could not be cleared. A last scan checks everything that is leaving. An AI provider that has not declared where it runs is treated as outside the country. See Keep sensitive details away from AI.

The limits: Veil covers Ask Kinnow and most agents today, and the rest are being added. GSTIN, Aadhaar, card and IBAN numbers are checked by their check digits; PAN, IFSC, bank account and phone numbers are recognised by their pattern. Amounts are sent as they are by default. Veil is a safeguard, not a legal clearance: your adviser decides what your sector requires.

Ask us to show a Veil receipt: what we would have sent beside what was sent, on sample data.

Questions

Does Veil mean no data leaves Kinnow?

No. Veiled data goes to the AI provider so the AI can do the work. What is held back, such as identifiers and negotiated terms, does not.

Can I see what was sent?

Yes. Kinnow records what was sent and what was held back for each call.

Does Veil cover every agent?

Not yet. It covers Ask Kinnow and most agents today, and the rest are being added.
