AI agent (in an ERP)
What is an AI agent? A piece of software that does one defined job on your records, such as matching a bank statement, drafting a reminder or processing a return, and then hands the result to a person to confirm.
In plain words
Think of an agent as a trained assistant for one job. It does the repetitive part, shows you how it got there, and waits for you to say yes. It is not a chatbot, and it does not run your business on its own.
A worked example
It is Monday and your bank statement has 220 lines. The Bank Reconciler agent compares each line with the receipts and payments in your books.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1 | It pairs the clear ones, say 190 lines, using amount, date and the cheque or UTR number. |
| 2 | Next to each pair it shows the rule that matched them. |
| 3 | The 30 lines it is unsure about come up as suggestions, not matches. |
| 4 | Your accountant confirms the 190 in one pass and spends the time on the 30. |
The numbers are only an illustration. What stays the same is the pattern: the agent prepares, a person decides.
Why it matters
- Time. Repetitive checking moves off your team's desk, so month-end is less of a scramble.
- Errors. Every result comes with its reasons and how sure the agent is, so a wrong one is easy to spot.
- Control. Nothing is filed, paid or posted without a person.

In Kinnow
How Kinnow handles it
Kinnow has 284 agents. Each is named for the work it takes off a desk, such as the Bank Reconciler, the 3-way match agent and the Collections agent. Every agent is validated with each client before it works on their books, and the agents page lists them.
Ask Kinnow is the one you talk to: you ask in plain English and the answer shows its source and its cost before it runs. Veil, our privacy layer, holds back bank, tax and ID numbers and swaps names for placeholders before an AI call. It covers Ask Kinnow and most agents today; the rest are being added.
An agent can be wrong. That is why a low-confidence result only appears as a suggestion, and why your approvals and corrections are recorded for you to see.
Questions
What is an AI agent?
A piece of software that does one defined job on your records, such as matching a bank statement, drafting a reminder or processing a return, and then hands the result to a person to confirm.
Can an agent act without my approval?
No. Agents draft, match and suggest. Nothing is filed, paid or posted without a person.
Is an agent the same as a chatbot?
No. A chatbot answers questions. An agent does a defined piece of work on your records and hands it back for approval. Ask Kinnow is the one you talk to; the others do their defined jobs.
