GST returns prepared, checked, filed with approval
Returns are prepared from your books, checked against the GST portal, and filed only after a person approves.
Live in partWhat does GST Filing Agent do? Cuts monthly compliance work while keeping a person's sign-off on every filing.
How it works
The sales return (GSTR-1) is built straight from issued invoices and credit notes, with every excluded document named and the reason shown. Kinnow compares the input tax credit you claim with the portal figure: within 2% is ready, otherwise it needs review. Because filing can't be undone, a person approves with an extra security check. The portal's acknowledgement is saved.
Direct filing to the portal is in pilot; today Kinnow produces the upload file for you to file on the portal.
Step by step: one month of GST returns
- Sales invoices and credit notes are issued as usual. Kinnow reads the invoices and credit notes your company has issued for the month from the sales book.
- Purchase bills are matched to the GST portal. Your accountant runs the GSTR-2B reconciliation. Each purchase bill is matched against the portal download, and the mismatches are listed for follow-up.
- The sales return is built. On the GSTR-1 screen, pick a month and press "Build return". Kinnow shows how many documents are in the month, how many are on the return and how many were left out, and names every left-out document with the reason.
- The input credit is compared. Kinnow compares the credit you claim in the books with the portal figure. A difference of up to 2% shows as ready. A larger difference shows as needing review, so someone reconciles it first.
- A person approves. The partner or finance head reads the return with the difference beside it and approves it. Nothing is filed until then.
- The file goes to the portal. Today Kinnow prepares the upload file as JSON or Excel and your team uploads it on the GST portal. Filing directly from Kinnow is in pilot.
- The filing is recorded. Mark the return as filed in Kinnow and the acknowledgement number is kept with the return.

What you see on screen
| Screen | What it shows |
|---|---|
| GSTR-1 | Month picker and "Build return"; counts for documents in the month, on the return and left out; a section table with rows per section; a list of left-out documents with customer, value and reason; Download JSON and Download Excel |
| GSTR-2B | The portal figures matched to your purchase bills, with the seven possible outcomes per bill |
| Tax returns | Each return with period, taxable value, total tax, net payable, input credit claimed, status and acknowledgement number |
| Filing calendar | Upcoming filings by return type and period, with days left or days overdue |
If the month has more documents than Kinnow could read in one pass, the screen says the return covers only part of the month and tells you not to file it. A short return still uploads without complaint, which is why the left-out list matters.
Who uses it
- Accounts executive: runs the reconciliation and builds the return each month.
- Finance head or CA partner: reads the left-out list and the credit difference, then approves.
- The owner: sees the filing calendar and whether each return is prepared, filed or overdue.
