Live in part
Short answer

What does GSTR-2B Reconciler do? Protects your input tax credit every month and makes sure you reconcile before you file.

How it works

Kinnow brings together your purchase bills and the supplier filings in your GSTR-2B file from the GST portal. Each bill is sorted into one of seven outcomes, such as matched, partly matched, missing on either side, or credit denied for late upload. Exceptions are ranked by credit at risk. A GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B is not marked as filed until a complete reconciliation exists for the period.

The detail that makes it real

Seven clear outcomes per bill, and a return is not marked as filed until a reconciliation exists for the period.

Step by step

Here is one month for a company that buys from a few hundred suppliers. The accounts executive does the matching and the finance head or CA signs off.

  1. Pick the month. After the portal publishes the month's GSTR-2B (around the 14th; your CA confirms the date), the accounts executive opens the GSTR-2B screen, picks the period and presses Reconcile only once the portal file is in. Where the live portal download is switched on for your account (in pilot), Download + reconcile fetches the file as well.
  2. Kinnow reads both sides. It takes your purchase bills from Buy and the supplier lines from the portal file, and matches them on the supplier's GSTIN and the invoice number.
  3. Each bill gets one outcome. An exact match is Matched and the credit is claimed without anyone looking. A bill within 2% of the portal figure is Amount differs. A bill with no portal line is Not on the portal. A portal line with no bill is Not in your books. There are also outcomes for lines you rejected or left pending in the invoice management step (IMS), and for late e-invoice uploads.
  4. You see only what needs a person. Matched lines stay out of the way. The rest is listed in order of credit at risk, highest first, each with a reason and a plain next step: chase the supplier, book the bill, review the difference, decide the IMS line.
  5. People clear the list. The purchase team chases suppliers who have not filed. The accounts team books missing bills and decides IMS lines. Running the same month again replaces the earlier result.
  6. Filing waits for the check. Kinnow will not mark a GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B as filed until a complete reconciliation exists for that period. Kinnow prepares the return and the file; a person files it on the GST portal.

What you see on screen

The screen is titled GSTR-2B reconciliation, only what needs a human. These are the parts you will use.

  • Period and actions: a month picker with Reconcile only and, where the live portal download is on, Download + reconcile.
  • Reconciliation outcomes: one tile per outcome, named in plain words: Matched, Amount differs, Not on the portal, Not in your books, Rejected in IMS, Pending in IMS and Late e-invoice (tax credit denied).
  • Two money figures: Tax credit claimable and Tax credit at risk, plus a count of bills against portal lines and the time of the last run.
  • Needs a human: a table of supplier, invoice number, outcome, your amount, the portal amount, tax credit at risk and an explanation, with an IMS action on each row that needs one.
  • What to do next: a short list of jobs with the team that owns each, for example Chase 4 suppliers (purchase team) or Book 2 bills (accounts team), with a message you can copy.
  • Could not be matched: bills that lack a supplier GSTIN or an invoice number in your own records. They are listed separately with what is missing, and are not counted against any supplier.
  • Export: the result downloads as a sheet with Summary, Needs a human and Could not be matched tabs, for your CA.
