Short answer

What does Tenant-extensible close gates do? Your controller's policy becomes a system rule: a failed check stops the close, or goes to a named approver, even under deadline pressure.

How it works

Kinnow's 12 month-end checks can be extended. Admins pick from ready-made rule templates. Any readiness item, such as GST return prepared, TDS matched, stock posted or depreciation run, can become a hard stop, or an exception sent to a named approver. Another rule can require a signature whenever any check was waived.

The detail that makes it real

If a check was never run, the rule blocks the close instead of passing it, because an empty checklist is not a clean one.

Step by step

  1. The controller picks a rule. In Admin, choose one of the ready-made month-end rules. There are seven: GSTR-1 prepared, GSTR-3B self-assessed, TDS 26Q matched, inventory valuation posted, depreciation run, "a hard check failed" and "a waived check needs a signature".
  2. The controller chooses how firm it is. Stop the close, or send it to a named approver.
  3. The accountant runs the pre-close. "Evaluate gates (pre-close)" runs all 12 checks and shows a result for each.
  4. Hard checks must pass. A failed hard check blocks the close. A failed soft check can be waived with a written reason by someone with finance admin permission, unless your rule says otherwise.
  5. The close is made. Closing blocks further postings to that month. The result of every check is saved to the period.
  6. Reopen and lock are controlled. Only a Controller can reopen, and must give a reason. Locking is final.

What you see on screen

  • Close page. "Gates passed", "Hard failed" and "Can close: Yes or No", with buttons to Evaluate, Close period, Abandon pre-close, Reopen and Lock.
  • The checklist. Each check with Passed, Failed or Waived, its reason and, for a waiver, the written reason.
  • Close packet. The audit record of the close: the results the decision was made on, any check waived and why, and who closed, locked or reopened it. It says plainly if the checks were never run.
  • What this period suggests tightening. Suggestions counted from that month's own entries. Nothing is changed by it.

The 12 month-end checks

Seven are hard and five are soft. Your rules can make a soft check firm. They cannot remove a check.
