Short answer

What does Bank Reconciler replace? The work of an accounts executive: matching bank lines to receipts and payments, for each bank account each month. Matches bank lines to receipts ahead of time and shows why it matched each one. Lines it is unsure about come up as suggestions only and are never committed on their own.

Shows why

Every draft comes with its reasons and how sure the agent is. If it is unsure, it only offers a suggestion.

Waits for you

It does not file, pay or post anything until a person says so.

Gets reviewed

Your approvals and corrections are recorded, so you can see how well it does on your books.

A day with Bank Reconciler

A typical month for a company with one or two bank accounts and an accounts executive.

  1. A statement comes in. Your accounts executive imports the bank statement for one account, say the current account you pay suppliers from. Kinnow lines it up against the entries in your books that touch that account and have not been cleared yet.
  2. Fixed rules go first. Kinnow tries four matches before any AI is involved: the same amount within three days; the same cheque or UTR number in both the bank narration and your entry; one bank line that equals two to five entries for the same party; and a close amount (within 0.1%) within seven days.
  3. Certain matches are cleared and listed. Matches that the fixed rules are sure about are marked cleared and shown in the run summary. The close-amount matches wait for review.
  4. What is left goes to the agent. Bank lines still unmatched go to Bank Reconciler. It reads the bank wording and your narrations and suggests matches, each with a confidence between 0 and 1 and a short reason. Before it reads anything, Veil, our privacy layer swaps names and account numbers for placeholders.
  5. Suggestions arrive as proposals. Each suggestion is saved as "proposed", whatever its confidence. Anything below 0.95 is marked for a closer look. The list shows the bank line, the entries it points to and why.
  6. Your accountant decides. They accept a proposal, which clears the line and the entries together, or leave it. Lines with no match stay on the unmatched list until someone deals with them.

What a person decides

Nothing is filed, paid or posted without a person. For bank matching that means:

  • You accept or leave each suggestion. Accepting uses the same step as a manual match, so the trail looks the same whoever matched the line.
  • You decide when it runs. It runs when your accountant starts it for a bank account. Only people with accountant access can start it.
  • You set the pace of review. Anything under 0.95 confidence is flagged. A higher figure only changes where a suggestion sits in the list, never its status.
  • It never does these things. It does not move money, change an amount, edit a bank statement or post an entry on its own.

Questions

What does the Bank Reconciler agent do?

Matches bank lines to receipts ahead of time and shows why it matched each one. Lines it is unsure about come up as suggestions only and are never committed on their own.

Does Bank Reconciler act on its own?

No. Bank Reconciler hands back its suggested matches, each with its reasons and how sure it is, and a person approves before anything is posted, filed, sent or paid.

Does Bank Reconciler learn?

Yes. Each time you approve or reject a match, Kinnow records it against how sure the agent said it was, so you can see how it is doing on your books. Your corrections are kept as feedback.

How is it paid for?

It is part of your agent pack, and there is no charge per user.

Can it clear one payment that covers three invoices?

Yes. If one bank line equals the total of two to five entries for the same party within seven days, the fixed rules match them together. Your accountant can check the pairing in the run summary.

Does the AI see our account numbers and names?

Names and account numbers in narrations are swapped for placeholders before the AI reads them, and restored for the person reviewing. Veil covers Ask Kinnow and most agents today.
