Close Checklist agent
Runs the twelve period-close checks, helps clear the ones holding up the close and drafts the commentary on variances. A person confirms the close.
Validated with each clientWhat does Close Checklist replace? The work of an accounts executive: reconciling the trial balance and working through the period-close checklist: downloading reports, ticking and tying, chasing open items. Runs the twelve period-close checks, helps clear the ones holding up the close and drafts the commentary on variances. A person confirms the close.
Shows why
Every draft comes with its reasons and how sure the agent is. If it is unsure, it only offers a suggestion.
Waits for you
It does not file, pay or post anything until a person says so.
Gets reviewed
Your approvals and corrections are recorded, so you can see how well it does on your books.
A day with Close Checklist
Picture the accounts team of a group with three companies, closing September on the 6th of October.
- The accountant opens the close. For the month, Kinnow runs twelve checks: trial balance ties, no journals waiting for approval, bank reconciled, receivables and payables match their ledgers, intercompany balanced, GSTR-1 prepared, GSTR-3B self-assessed, TDS 26Q matched, inventory roll posted, depreciation complete and profit and loss variance acceptable.
- Each check passes or fails. Each is marked as a hard stop or not. The close is "ready" only when no hard check has failed.
- It plans the fixes. In a group of companies, a failed intercompany check is fixed by the agent itself, which runs the eliminations. For other failed checks it plans the matching step: the depreciation run, the bank reconciliation, or a note on a variance. Anything else, such as a journal waiting for approval, is left to a person.
- It drafts the variance note. If the profit and loss variance check fails, it writes a short note with the reason the check gave, for the controller to complete.
- The controller gets a close packet. All twelve results, the planned fixes, whether any hard check is failing and, where it sees a pattern, a suggestion to tighten a control.
- A person closes the month. The controller confirms the close. The agent never closes the period itself.
What it reads and what it hands back
| What it reads | What it hands back | Where it lands |
|---|---|---|
| Ledgers, bank reconciliation status, receivables and payables, depreciation and inventory | Pass or fail for each of twelve checks, hard or not | A close packet for the controller |
| GST return preparation and TDS matching status | Which returns are prepared and which are not | The same packet |
| The variance check | A short draft note with the reason | The same packet, for the controller to complete |

What a person decides
Nothing is filed, paid or posted without a person. The agent prepares the close, and the controller owns it.
- The controller confirms the close. The agent never changes the period's state.
- You trigger the other fixes. In a group, the agent runs the intercompany eliminations itself. Depreciation, bank reconciliation and the rest are planned and shown to you, and are not run silently.
- You decide on control changes. A suggestion to tighten a control is only a suggestion until a person accepts it.
Ask Kinnow about this
Ask Kinnow answers from your own records and shows its source and cost before it runs. What you get back depends on what has been recorded.
| You might ask | What the answer shows |
|---|---|
| What is holding up the September close? | The checks that failed, hard or not, and the fix planned for each. |
| Which journals are waiting for approval? | The journals, who posted them and how old they are. |
| Is the bank reconciled for all three companies? | The reconciliation status for each company. |
| What changed in profit and loss against last month? | The variance and the note drafted for it. |
Ask us to run a close on your numbers, with your twelve checks.

Questions
What does the Close Checklist agent do?
Runs the twelve period-close checks, helps clear the ones holding up the close and drafts the commentary on variances. A person confirms the close.
Does Close Checklist act on its own?
No. Close Checklist hands back a filled-in checklist and draft variance commentary, with its reasons, and a person approves before anything is posted, filed, sent or paid.
Does Close Checklist learn?
Yes. Each time you approve or reject an item on the checklist, Kinnow records it against how sure the agent said it was, so you can see how it is doing on your books. Your corrections are kept as feedback.
How is it paid for?
It is part of your agent pack, and there is no charge per user.
Which checks does Close Checklist run?
Twelve: trial balance ties, no journals waiting for approval, bank reconciled, receivables and payables match their ledgers, intercompany balanced, GSTR-1 prepared, GSTR-3B self-assessed, TDS 26Q matched, inventory roll posted, depreciation complete and profit and loss variance acceptable.
Can it close the month for me?
No. It builds a close packet and says whether the month is ready. A person confirms the close.
Works alongside
Bank Reconciler
Matches bank lines to receipts ahead of time and shows why it matched each one. Lines it is unsure about come up as suggestions only and are never committed on their own.
AccountAI Invoice Extractor
Reads the text of a supplier invoice and fills in the bill for you, checking that the amounts add up before anything is saved.
AccountDouble-entry validator
Stops any journal entry that does not balance, or that uses a ledger that is not valid, before it can be posted.
AccountPeriod-close gate
Checks whether the books are ready to close, including rules your company has written itself, before a period can be locked.
