Reports that show how fresh they are
Every statement shows its as-of date and how it was calculated, so old numbers never pose as current.
LiveWhat does Freshness stamps + nightly drift report do? Leadership can trust a board number because it shows its age, and hidden data problems surface the next morning.
How it works
Trial balance, balance sheet, P&L and ageing reports carry a freshness stamp: the as-of date, and whether the figures come from the overnight summary or were worked out live. At 1am Kinnow rebuilds five summaries before the 7am agents use them, compares before and after, and reports any difference instead of quietly correcting it.
Before this, one company's statements balanced but were short ₹24.08 crore because of an outdated summary.
Step by step: how a report earns its trust
- Some reports are served from nightly summaries. For speed, the trial balance, balance sheet, P&L and ageing read from summaries rather than from every ledger line. A summary can fall behind the ledger without any sign on the screen.
- Each report carries a freshness stamp. Under the figures you see the as-of date, and whether the numbers came from the overnight summary or were worked out live from the ledger.
- The summaries are rebuilt at 1am. Every night at 1am in your own time zone, Kinnow rebuilds five summaries: the balances behind the trial balance, balance sheet and P&L; receivables outstanding; payables outstanding; open items; and the matching of receipts to bills. This happens before the 7am reports and agents read them.
- Before and after are compared. Kinnow compares each summary with itself before and after the rebuild and reports any difference. It does not quietly correct it.
- The difference is recorded. The before-and-after comparison is stored with that night's run, covering what moved and for which party.
- A bad night is not recorded as clean. If a step failed, a party's net balance moved or a confirmed allocation was lost, the run is recorded as not clean, rather than as completed.

What you see on screen
| Where | What you see |
|---|---|
| Under a report's figures | A freshness caption with the as-of date and where the numbers came from: the overnight summary or a live read of the ledger |
| Trial balance, balance sheet, P&L | The stamp tells you whether the statement read the summary or fell back to the live ledger |
| Ageing reports | The same stamp on receivables and payables ageing |
| Reports on other sources | Some reports show a stamp and some do not, as described in the limits below |
The reason for the stamp is a real case. On one migrated company, the trial balance summary was short by Rs 24.08 crore while still balancing to the paisa. No debit-equals-credit check could catch it, and nothing on screen looked wrong. A stamp that shows the age of the summary is how that kind of gap gets noticed.
Who uses it
- Finance head or CFO: checks the as-of line before quoting a number to the board or a bank.
- Accountant: checks the as-of line before sending a statement or a schedule to a client or bank.
- Auditor or CA: can see which basis a statement was prepared on.
- Owner: learns whether the figure on the screen is live or last night's.
