Right bin, right item, first time
Kinnow suggests the best storage bin on arrival, and every scan is checked against the order.
Live in partWhat does Smart putaway & scan verification do? Fewer picking mistakes and less expired stock, without a separate warehouse system.
How it works
When goods arrive, Kinnow suggests one bin, based on how fast the item moves, its weight, expiry, cold-storage needs and the space left in the bin; it never overfills one. Open pick lists can be grouped by zone, with one walking order each. Every scan is checked against the purchase or sales order, and the screen stops on a mismatch. Scan screens are made for gloved hands.
If the suggestion service is down, a simple weight-and-zone rule still suggests a bin.
Step by step
- The goods are received and accepted. Your storekeeper accepts the goods receipt in Buy. Kinnow creates a putaway task for each accepted line.
- Kinnow looks for bins with room. It reads the active bins in the receiving warehouse that still have spare weight and spare volume for the goods. A bin with no declared capacity is never offered.
- It suggests one bin. Fast-moving items go near dispatch, items over 20 kg go to ground level, dated items go to the zone picked first-expiry-first-out, and cold goods go to the cold zone. It never suggests a bin beyond its capacity.
- The storekeeper confirms or chooses another bin. A bin chosen by a person is never overwritten by a late suggestion.
- The scan is checked. The storekeeper scans the item. Kinnow matches it to the line. If it is the wrong item, the screen stops and the line is left unchanged.
- Picking uses the same check. Pickers scan against the pick list, and open pick lists can be grouped by zone with one walking order each. Nothing is released until you release it.
What you see on screen
- Putaway. Tabs for Pending, In Progress, Completed and All, each task with its suggested bin. A box reads "Scan card / item to auto-complete" and a Complete button finishes the task.
- New putaway task. For a receipt that came outside the normal route, or one the automatic step missed.
- Pick Lists. A queue with the same four tabs, "Scan next item" on each list and "All lines picked" when done.
- Suggested pick waves. Open pick lists grouped by zone with a walking order. It warns if lists belong to another warehouse or were only partly read.
- Short lines. Items short on a pick list, with a suggested action: look at the shelf, back-order, or nothing to do.
- Check a receipt for a supplier claim. Enter a goods receipt number to see what arrived short, over or rejected. It drafts wording only; nothing is sent.

| Picker | Through the day | Works the pick list and scans each item. |
| Warehouse supervisor | At set-up, and when stock moves | Sets up zones and bins, switches on "scan required" for a zone, and releases pick waves. |
| Purchase team | After a short delivery | Uses the drafted claim wording for the supplier. |
See putaway on your own warehouse layout. Tell us your zones and bins, and we will walk a receipt through them.
Ask how this fits your stores. We can walk through a cold-storage or expiry-dated example with you.
