Every discussion ends with a recorded decision
A discussion can close with what was decided, or an honest 'no decision' and the reason, kept at the top of the conversation.
LiveWhat does Decision Capture do? Six months later, anyone can see what was agreed, by whom and when, without scrolling old chat.
How it works
The decision sits in its own section above the discussion, never buried among the messages. You finish by recording the decision, or by closing with 'no decision' and a reason. Long conversations get a gentle reminder that a decision is due, never a hard stop. If two people decide at the same moment, only one decision is kept.
Built because comment threads in older business software turn into clutter; here the decision is always shown first.
Step by step
Here is how a pricing or approval discussion runs between a sales head, a finance manager and an account manager.
- Someone starts the conversation where the work is. It can sit on a record such as an invoice or a customer, on a standing subject such as "Discount bands", or be private between named people. Everyone sees on the top line what it is filed on.
- People talk, and the decision line stays at the top. Above the messages a single quiet line says no decision is recorded yet and how many turns in the conversation is. Messages below are grouped so a name and time appear once for a run of lines. A corrected message shows the new wording with the original struck through.
- Kinnow nudges after a while. Once an open conversation passes six turns it is shown as owing an answer: a decision, or an honest "no decision". It is a reminder, never a block, and nothing is refused.
- Optionally, ask for a suggestion. Kinnow can read the conversation and suggest decisions and action items. Each suggestion quotes an exact line from the chat and is thrown away if the quote cannot be found. A conversation under three messages or 240 characters is turned down before anything is charged. Nothing is recorded until a person accepts it.
- A person records the decision. They write what was decided and why, and the decision keeps a list of the messages it rests on. It then appears as a card above the discussion with who decided and when.
- Or the conversation closes with no decision. A person closes it and gives the reason. If two people decide at the same moment, only the first is kept; the second is told a decision already exists.
Bring one discussion your team had last month and we will show how it would read on Kinnow.
What you see on screen
This lives in Conversations (Zest), on the Talk screen, with Subjects beside it.
| Where | What you see |
|---|---|
| Talk: the list | Conversations about a record, about a subject, and private ones in one list, newest activity first. A small dot marks something you have not read; it clears only for you. |
| Top of a conversation | The title, the people as small circles, and up to three facts: what it is filed on (or that it is private), whether it is open or decided, and how many turns it has. |
| The decision card | Above all messages: the decision, the reason, who decided and when. If a private conversation was later moved into the open, the card says the decision began in private. |
| Subjects | Standing topics with how many decisions and open conversations each holds, decisions first. A footer counts subjects with no activity for 90 days. |
| A record's knowledge panel | Open a customer or invoice and the count of what was agreed shows alongside the other conversations about it. |
Who uses it
Anyone who takes part in a discussion, and anyone who reads it later.
| Who | When | What they do |
|---|---|---|
| Sales or account manager | During a negotiation | Records the agreed discount or terms before the thread goes quiet. |
| Finance manager | When an approval is argued over | Records why an exception was allowed. |
| New account owner | At a handover | Reads the decisions first instead of scrolling old chat. |
| Owner or auditor | Months later | Finds what was agreed, by whom and when. |

Can a decision be changed later?
A conversation keeps one decision. If circumstances change, start a new conversation, which gets its own decision with its own date and author.
What if a discussion ends without agreement?
Close it with "no decision" and give the reason. That is recorded as an answer in its own right, so the thread does not simply fade out.
