Meeting recordings that respect law and people
Kinnow checks local consent law before recording, and anyone in the meeting can say no, even afterwards.
Live in partWhat does Recording legality gate do? Use meeting transcripts without risking consent breaches: India and the UAE are checked today, and anywhere else Kinnow declines to record.
How it works
Before any recording or transcript is kept, Kinnow checks the local law on whether one or all people must consent. If the location is uncertain, it declines to record rather than assume. Either side can turn transcription off, for all meetings or one, even afterwards, and manual uploads respect that. The approver signs off the recording rules.
A participant's refusal also blocks a manager uploading a transcript manually, so saying no really counts.
Step by step: before a conversation is recorded
- A named person switches recording on. Someone turns recording on for a class of meetings, such as a sales team or a mentoring programme. It carries their name and an expiry, 180 days by default. Without a rule, nothing is recorded.
- Kinnow asks where the conversation is happening. The law that applies depends on the place. The country must be set on your company or account. If Kinnow had to assume it, it refuses. An assumed country that happens to be right is still an assumption.
- The law is checked first. Kinnow looks up whether one person's consent is enough, or whether everyone must agree. Right now India is checked as one-party and the UAE as all-party. For every other country it declines and tells you to take notes instead.
- Then consent is checked. Even where the law allows it, anyone in the meeting can say no. One refusal stops the recording. It is not a vote, and the organiser cannot overrule it.
- A refusal still works afterwards. If someone objects after the meeting, their refusal is honoured when the transcript arrives. It also blocks a manager uploading a transcript by hand.
- Participants see a neutral notice. The note to participants says only that "one participant asked us not to keep a recording". It does not say who.
Walk through a sales call or a mentoring session with us and see where each check would fire.
What you see on screen
| Situation | What Kinnow says |
|---|---|
| No country set | No country has been worked out for this capture. Recording law depends on where the conversation happens, so there is nothing to check against |
| Country was assumed | The country is a fallback and not a configured value. Set it on your company or account |
| Country not yet reviewed | No recording-consent decision has been made for this country. This is a legal decision for a person, so capture notes instead |
| A participant objected | One participant asked us not to keep a recording |
| Allowed | The country and its rule, for example "IN: one-party consent" |
Notes are always possible. Capturing notes is never blocked by the recording check.
Who uses it
- Sales head or programme lead: turns recording on for their team, with their name on the decision.
- The person on the call: can say no before, during or after.
- Your lawyer or adviser: decides which countries can be added to the checked list.
- Anyone uploading a transcript later: finds the same refusals apply.
