Short answer

What does Your Statements, Your Layout do? Finance teams switch systems without relearning their statements, and can tie Kinnow to the old system line by line.

How it works

When you move to Kinnow, it keeps your old system's statement structure: headings, sub-groups and ledgers in the original order. Each ledger shows Kinnow's own balance and each group the sum beneath it; lines like gross profit use Kinnow's standard calculation. Without an old layout, the standard statement is used.

The detail that makes it real

Subtotals are always worked out by Kinnow, never copied from the imported file, so the comparison is a real check.

Step by step

  1. Export from your old system. Your accountant exports the profit and loss and the balance sheet as your old software prints them, with the headings and sub-groups indented as usual.
  2. The layout is read from the export. The indentation of the file gives the structure: which line is a heading, which is a sub-group and which is a ledger. Kinnow keeps that order.
  3. Kinnow checks the layout before saving it. A layout with a line that has no ledger to read from, two sub-groups sharing one name, or a heading nested wrongly is refused when it is built, not discovered later on a screen.
  4. Each line is filled from Kinnow's own books. A ledger line shows Kinnow's balance for the account of the same name. A group shows the sum of the lines beneath it. Gross profit and net profit use Kinnow's standard calculation.
  5. Your accountant compares line by line. Open the report beside the old statement. A difference shows against a named ledger or group, not just a different total.
  6. Export it. The CSV or Excel export keeps the indentation, so the file can be laid next to the old one.

Will my balance sheet look exactly like the one in my old software?

The rows will be in the same order, with the same headings and sub-groups. Column headings show the date of the balance rather than a year label, and subtotals are worked out by Kinnow, so the figures are the ones in your Kinnow books.

What if I do not have an old layout?

Kinnow shows its standard profit and loss and balance sheet. A layout from an old system is only used for a company that moved with one.
