How it works
You can switch the screens between English and Hindi instantly; Arabic layout is prepared for right to left but is not switched on yet, and the Hindi text is a draft available for review. Your own data is never machine-translated. Indian number formats like lakh and crore, and wording that screen readers can speak for amounts, are built in. Accessibility is checked automatically, including keyboard use, large touch targets and a clearly visible outline around the selected item.
The outline that shows where the keyboard cursor is was fixed after tests found too little contrast (1.41:1 against the 3:1 required); it now measures 4.48:1.
Step by step
- A person picks their language. From the language switcher at the top of the screen, a user chooses English or Hindi. The screens change at once. Each person chooses for themselves.
- Labels and messages change, your data does not. Menus, buttons, headings and messages appear in Hindi. Names, descriptions and amounts you or your team typed stay exactly as entered, in whatever language they were typed.
- Amounts read the Indian way. Rupee amounts use lakh and crore grouping, for example 12,34,567.89, and dates read as day, month, year. Screen readers get amounts in words that can be spoken.
- Keyboard and touch are designed in. You can move through screens with the keyboard, the selected item has a clearly visible outline, and buttons are sized for touch.
- Checks are run on the screens. Automated checks run for the standard rules, but they do not cover everything. Colour contrast, for example, is checked separately.
- Arabic follows later. The layout is built to flip right to left. Arabic layout is prepared, but it is not switched on in the running product yet.
