Short answer

What does Ask About This Report do? Questions get answered in context with clear assumptions, so people trust the answers instead of second-guessing them.

How it works

When a report is open, questions are answered from that report by default. Wider questions like 'compare with last year' go to Kinnow's full set of reports. If neither can answer, it tells you so plainly and never pretends it worked. Kinnow asks at most one question to clear things up; otherwise it says what it assumed and offers a one-tap alternative.

The detail that makes it real

At most one quick-pick question, then 'we assumed…' with a one-tap alternative.

Step by step

  1. Open a report in Know. For example the trial balance, a sales register or an ageing report.
  2. Type your question in the "Ask about this report" box. The box sits with the report and says "Ask about the data on screen".
  3. Kinnow tries the report first. By default it answers from the rows you are looking at, and says "From this report" on the answer.
  4. If the report cannot answer, it looks wider. Questions that reach past the screen, such as "compare with last year" or "across all branches", go to Kinnow's full set of reports, and the answer is labelled "Composed a new view".
  5. You see where the answer came from. A grounded answer shows how many rows it cited. If neither route can answer, it says "Couldn't answer that" and does not guess.

Who uses it

  • Branch or department heads: asking which row is the outlier in a sales or expense report.
  • Owners: who would rather ask than build a report.
