No-signal vehicles never shown as parked

Every vehicle shows as live, stale with its age, or no signal; never a misleading 'idle'.

Live
Short answer

What does Honest fleet telematics do? Dispatchers stop trusting a map that quietly shows an unmonitored fleet as parked.

How it works

Status starts from your vehicle list, so a vehicle without a tracker still appears. Each position shows its age, by the tracking company's own clock. A fleet with no live vehicles is reported as unmonitored. Daily alerts flag registration, insurance, fitness and permit expiries at 30, 15 and 7 days, and a trip cannot be created for a vehicle with an expired document or a driver with an expired licence.

The detail that makes it real

A new tracking company is added as a setup step we do with you, not a change to the software.

Step by step

  1. Put every vehicle on the register. Registration, insurance, fitness and permit dates are kept against each vehicle, whether or not it has a tracker.
  2. Connect your tracking company. Positions arrive from the tracking company you use. Adding a new one is a setup step we do with you.
  3. Each vehicle gets one of three states. Live, Last seen (with how long ago, by the tracking company's own clock) or No device.
  4. Kinnow checks how much of the fleet it can actually see. If fewer than four in five vehicles are reporting, it says the map is not a picture of the fleet. It lists vehicles that went quiet for a day or more separately from vehicles that never had a device.
  5. Expiry alerts arrive every day. Registration certificate, insurance, fitness and permit expiries are flagged at 30, 15 and 7 days.
  6. The dispatcher plans trips with that in view. A vehicle with an expired document, or a driver with an expired licence, cannot be given a trip.

What you see on screen

Under Field operations, the Live screen shows:

On the screenWhat it shows
N reporting, N with no signalA count at the top, so you can see how much of the fleet the map covers.
FleetEvery active vehicle on the register, with a Live, Last seen or No device label.
Speed and driverThe latest speed in km/h and the driver assigned, or "No driver assigned".
No signal helpA note that a vehicle with no signal has never reported, which is not the same as being idle.

Who uses it

  • Dispatcher: decides which vehicles to trust on the map.
  • Transport or fleet manager: chases quiet devices and expiring papers.
  • Compliance clerk: renews insurance, fitness and permits before the alerts turn red.
